I wish to speak in favor of the renewal of the Cohasset triathlon, it is a great event with minimal impact to the town. I will state I have been a participate in the event as has my wife. If you stop to look at the number of people in Cohasset that have participated, you will see this event is about members of our community staying active and supporting charity as much as it is about elite athletes. I do not see this as anymore disruptive than the annual 10k road race, the Turkey Trot, the Arts festival, or Cohasset Days. The event brings people to town, many for the first time and what they see is wonderful and I am sure they come back for more.

Over the past 4 years I have been active in tri-events around New England. Bill Burentt runs the best organized and safest tri’s in the region if not the country. I have dozens of friends that had never been to Cohasset but came for the tri and now have made our area a regular stop on their bike rides and a place to bring their family for hiking and sightseeing.

I am surprised to hear any comment about not being able to get out of one’s home, the route goes right by my home and no one that I am aware of had issues leavening the neighborhood during the race.

This is a great event on a national scale as well as local, it would be a shame to lose it.
